RRI.CO.ID, Jakarta: Many people choose to spend the long Isra' Mi'raj holiday visiting various tourist destinations in Jakarta. One popular destination is Ragunan Zoo (TMR), located in South Jakarta.

Cheap ticket prices and affordable accommodations are some the reasons people visit the zoo.

“I bring my family from my hometown to Ragunan for vacation because the tickets are affordable and transportation is convenient,” said Aam, a resident of Bogor, West Java, on Saturday, January 17, 2026.

Nina, a Jakarta resident who also took her family to Ragunan, shared similar reasons. Besides the affordable ticket prices, she said that Ragunan is now more pleasant and comfortable and that the animals are clean and well-maintained.

"The atmosphere is pleasant and comfortable. So, I can bring my family and see the animals, too," she said.

Wahyudi Bambang, the public relations officer at Ragunan Zoo, said the number of visitors increased during the Isra' Mi'raj holiday. "As of 11 a.m., we had recorded approximately 8,000 visitors, which is higher than the usual 3,000 to 5,000 people on an average day," Wahyudi said.

Despite the rain, public interest in visiting Ragunan Zoo remained high. He predicted that visitor numbers would continue to increase until 4 p.m.

Since November 2025, Ragunan Wildlife Park has also held the Ragunan Night Zoo from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. local time. However, this only applies on Saturday nights," he explained.

At the Ragunan Night Zoo, management only allows visitors to use the provided cars. "Visitors who come to enjoy the night tour must use the provided cars because not all animals can be seen at night," he said.

Animals that can be seen at night include Sumatran tigers, hippos, and other nocturnal mammals. This program has led management to implement a shift work system for staff.

"We're implementing a day and night shift system for staff as compensation. In the future, management also plans to add a primate center to support nighttime tourism operations," he said. (Misni Parjiati/Bambang MBKA)
